The condenser is a critical component of a multideck display chiller’s refrigeration system. Its primary function is to dissipate heat from high-pressure, high-temperature refrigerant gas into the external environment, thereby enabling the cabinet to achieve its cooling effect. Then, does the condenser in a multideck display chiller need to be cleaned on time? The answer is a definite YES. Many people might be unfamiliar with the refrigeration system of a display chiller and would never consider that the condenser needs cleaning. Let’s take a look at the necessity of cleaning the condenser and the correct cleaning methods.


I. The Necessity of Cleaning the Condenser

If we say the compressor is the heart of the multideck display chiller, then the condenser would be its liver. If dust accumulates on it, it will directly affect heat dissipation, causing the cooling performance of the air curtain cabinet to weaken. As a result, the compressor will have to work harder, not only increasing power consumption but also shortening the compressor’s lifespan over time. In the summer, when temperatures are extremely high, this could even burn out the compressor. Therefore, it is essential to regularly check whether the condenser is dirty. If there is excessive dust or grime, it must be thoroughly cleaned. Of course, this is not an issue with air curtain cabinets featuring a fully flush-back design. Since the condenser and compressor are built-in, the problems described above do not occur. In contrast, with wall-mounted air curtain cabinets, the condenser and compressor are exposed, making them highly susceptible to dust, cottonwood fluff, spider webs, and other debris. Therefore, regular cleaning is essential.

II. How to Clean the Air Curtain Cabinet Condenser

1. Before cleaning the condenser, we need to disconnect the power supply to ensure safety.

2. If the condenser is located inside the cabinet, it cannot be cleaned directly. Simply ensure there is a ventilation gap of at least 10 centimeters around the cabinet. The compressor is housed within a protective cover and does not require cleaning. However, if you detect a foul odor near the compressor, it indicates that the condensate drain pan is excessively dirty. In this case, simply remove the drain pan and clean it.

3. For standard air curtain cabinets, remove the cover panel and brush off the dust from the condenser using a soft brush. Be gentle and brush in the direction of the condenser fins to avoid damaging them and compromising heat dissipation.

4. Cleaning the air curtain cabinet condenser with caustic soda requires professional maintenance personnel; non-professionals must not attempt this procedure. First, remove the grease-covered condenser. Use a blowtorch to seal the condenser’s pipe connections. Then, boil a pot of water. Place the removed condenser in a basin, sprinkle caustic soda over it, and pour the boiling water over the condenser. Be careful not to get scalded by the hot water! As the water flows over the condenser, the grease will be automatically washed away. Note that this process should take only 5–10 minutes; do not let it go on for too long. Once the condenser is clean, it must be rinsed thoroughly with clean water; failure to do so will shorten the condenser’s lifespan! Alternatively, without disassembly, you can use a blowtorch to repeatedly and gradually move the flame across the surface of the condenser. Be careful not to get too close, or might burn the aluminum fins. Heat both sides, then blow them clean with compressed air or rinse them with a strong stream of water.

5. Cleaning the air curtain cabinet’s condenser with a cleaning agent yields much better results than using water alone. However, condensers cleaned with such agents are prone to paint peeling, so this method is generally not recommended.
